Scilly for birdwatchers

Leave space in your plans. The birds you see depend on the season, weather and a little luck; a flexible day is often more useful than a long checklist.

Before you book

  1. Check recent local sightings and seasonal information rather than relying on an old species list.
  2. Follow access signs and wildlife guidance. Keep your distance, avoid disturbing birds and respect private land.
  3. For an off-island outing, confirm the return boat before setting off and keep essential kit within your baggage allowance.

A day to make your own

Spend your first morning exploring near your base, then consider a guided wildlife walk or boat outing suited to current conditions.

Keep an alternative ready

Use a quieter spell for a short sheltered walk or plan your next outing using local sightings. No particular species or sighting is guaranteed.
