About St Mary's
St Mary's is the largest and most populated of the five inhabited Isles of Scilly, home to around 1,700 residents and the islands' main town, Hugh Town. It is the arrival point for all ferry, flight and helicopter services, and the natural base from which to explore the wider archipelago.
The island covers approximately 2.5 square miles and can be circumnavigated on foot in a day, with a coastal path offering dramatic cliff scenery, secluded coves, prehistoric burial chambers and sweeping views of the surrounding islands. Hugh Town sits on a narrow isthmus and has an excellent range of shops, restaurants, pubs and galleries.
St Mary's Airport sits in the centre of the island and handles all Skybus arrivals. The Scillonian III and Penzance Helicopter both arrive at St Mary's Quay in the heart of Hugh Town.
