Planning Scilly early makes sense because transport, accommodation and major event weeks can all shape availability. For 2027 there is an extra reason to pay attention: the Steamship Group plans to introduce Scillonian IV, while major island events already have confirmed dates.
This page separates confirmed information from things that are still to be announced. We will update it as operators and official tourism bodies publish more detail.
Scillonian IV is planned for 2027
The Isles of Scilly Steamship Group says its new 600-passenger ferry Scillonian IV is planned to enter service in 2027, replacing Scillonian III on the Penzance–St Mary's passenger route. The vessel has already progressed through construction and sea trials in Vietnam.
What travellers should not do yet is assume an exact 2027 crossing time or timetable until the operator publishes it. The new ship is designed as the next generation of the route, but final passenger schedules should be taken from the official operator when released.
Walk Scilly 2027 is confirmed for 8–17 April
Visit Isles of Scilly currently lists Walk Scilly Festival for 8 to 17 April 2027. The programme itself is still to be confirmed, but the official event page describes guided walks and experiences across the inhabited islands and beyond.
If walking is the main reason for your visit, those dates are already useful for planning accommodation and travel. Do not assume individual walks are available until the programme and booking details are published.
World Pilot Gig Championships: 30 April–2 May
The official tourism calendar lists the World Pilot Gig Championships for 30 April to 2 May 2027. This is one of the biggest weekends in the Scilly calendar, so travellers who specifically want to attend — or who would rather avoid the busiest event atmosphere — should note it now.
Travel routes may look different by spring 2027
As of September 2026, Skybus services between Newquay and St Mary's are temporarily suspended through 16 March 2027, with services planned to resume in spring 2027. That is a good example of why 2027 travellers should check current operator status rather than relying on old route summaries.
Land's End Skybus, the Penzance ferry route and helicopter services remain key parts of the travel picture. Exact 2027 schedules and fares should be checked directly when booking opens for your dates.
What to book first
For high-demand periods, start with accommodation and your main transport. Then add activities, restaurants and inter-island plans once event programmes and seasonal timetables are clearer. Scilly's small scale is part of its charm, but it also means there is not limitless capacity during popular weeks.
What we are waiting to see
The details to watch include Scillonian IV's final operating timetable, confirmed 2027 fares, the full Walk Scilly programme, further festival dates and any route changes from the transport operators. We will update this guide rather than fill those gaps with speculation.
Sources and accuracy
We use official tourism bodies, transport operators and public heritage organisations for factual claims in this guide. Timetables, fares, opening times and weather-dependent services can change, so always confirm time-sensitive details directly before travelling.
Keep planning
