Luggage At A Glance
Luggage allowances differ significantly between the three services. The ferry is the most generous and accepts hard-shell cases; the helicopter allows 20kg but requires soft bags; Skybus is the most restrictive at 15kg. All figures below are indicative — always confirm current policies with the operator before booking.
| Service | Allowance | Bag Types | Dogs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scillonian Ferry | 25kg across 2 bags (max 85×60×40cm; no bag over 20kg) | All bag types permitted | Welcome — book ahead |
| Penzance Helicopter | 20kg + small cabin item | Soft bags only — no rigid cases | Onboard — book by phone (crate rules) |
| Skybus | 15kg hold across 2 bags (75 × 50 × 30 cm); cabin: 1 bag, 30 × 15 × 15 cm, max 3kg | Standard luggage; soft bags easier | Land's End & Newquay only — not Exeter |
Important Note
Skybus day-trip tickets have no hold luggage allowance. Measure your cabin bag before travelling. Skybus details checked 9 September 2026 against the official luggage policy.
Bulky Equipment — Campers & Divers
Camping gear (tents, sleeping bags, cooking equipment) and diving kit (cylinders, weights, fins) can use much of your allowance. The ferry is the most practical option for bulky items; flights have very limited hold capacity.
- Contact the operator before booking to confirm whether your specific items can be carried.
- Bulky or oversize items travel subject to hold space and may incur a supplementary charge.
- Camping on the islands is limited to designated campsites — confirm your pitch before travelling with bulky gear.
- Dive cylinders and weights are heavy; plan your allowance carefully and consider hiring kit on the islands where available.
