Why Penzance Matters

Penzance is the mainland hub for both the Scillonian ferry and the Penzance helicopter, and the nearest rail terminus to Land’s End Airport for Skybus. The ferry quay and heliport are separate destinations. Penzance Helicopters offers a rail-station shuttle; check its current arrangements and allow time for check-in.

Daytime Rail

Direct Great Western Railway services run from London Paddington to Penzance in around 5 hours, with connections from Bristol, Exeter and Plymouth. Plan the station-to-quay or station-to-heliport transfer separately and allow for your luggage and access needs. Always check the current timetable on National Rail before travelling.

Night Riviera Sleeper

GWR’s Night Riviera sleeper offers an overnight option between London Paddington and Penzance, with onward ferry or helicopter connections requiring a separate timetable and check-in check. It runs on most nights (check the current schedule — it does not run every night, and not on 24 or 25 December).

  • An overnight journey between London Paddington and Penzance, with onward connections to be checked separately.
  • Cabins and seated accommodation; cabin guests get lounges at Paddington, Truro and Penzance, plus a light breakfast.
  • A wheelchair-accessible sleeper is available.

Exact departure and arrival times change with GWR timetables — always check the current timetable and your connection on gwr.com before booking.

Coach

National Express and other coach operators serve Penzance from London and other cities, usually with a change. Journeys are slower than the train but can be cheaper. Check current routes and times directly with the operator.

By Car & Onward Connections

The A30 runs to Penzance from the rest of Cornwall and the M5. Land’s End Airport is near St Just, west of Penzance; check the airport’s pre-booked bus connection or arrange a car or taxi. Parking in Penzance is limited at peak times — see our parking guide or consider arriving by train.

Traveller Tip

The sleeper can form part of a car-free journey. Check your train arrival, transfer and operator check-in deadline before booking; an onward connection is not guaranteed.
